Jimmy Carter (SSN23) Christening, June 5, 2004

The Jimmy Carter, third and final ship of the Seawolf class of nuclear attack submarines, was christened at Electric Boat's Groton, Conn., shipyard on June 5, 2004.

Thousands of spectators, including EB employees and their families, Navy flag officers and others, and members of the Carter family attended the event.

 

 

The Jimmy Carter,
95 percent complete as of its christening date, will enter the fleet in 2004. When it does, it will represent a revolution in submarine design, construction and mission capability.
