Engineering Mentor Program at Electric Boat

Each new engineer is assigned a mentor to assist with his or her introduction to Electric Boat. The mentor is an experienced member of the engineering staff who has been chosen to share knowledge and experience with a newly hired engineer.

Your engineering career at Electric Boat starts with your mentor. You will be assigned to one of their projects, and you will be integrated into their work. Projects start out small with shared responsbility with your mentor, coworkers and supervision.

Once you achieve a level of understanding, you will be given small projects to increase your understanding and allow you to contribute. Your mentor provides the technical oversight for the project and the organizational guidance necessary to succeed.

You are encouraged to ask questions. You will attend meetings with your mentor and contribute to their engineering products, including engineering calculations, drawings, and design submittals. As you get more familiar with the work, your level of responsibility will increase, enabling you to take over projects from your mentor, or start new assignments that are fully your own.

Besides professional growth, your mentor can help you adjust to this new phase of your life. They can help you acclimate to your new community, with guidance on restaurants, shopping and recreation activities.
